Storyteller Media Group is a multi-award winning, producer of quality Factual Content for TV, Internet delivery and Mobile Digital Content. We also produce corporate documentaries, multimedia productions and print design.

Our talented staff can either fully produce your broadcast, corporate and multimedia projects, or provide production, post-production, production management and/or a consultancy services.

All our production and post-production facilities are available for hire.

Storyteller Media Group is one of Australia’s premier independent documentary producers, with a client list including prominent international broadcasters, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic International, ITV and the BBC. Within Australia, we have provided programs for the ABC, SBS and most commercial networks.

Storyteller Media Group also produces corporate documentaries, presentations and training videos.

Clients in this area include Oceanfast, the builders of ‘Aussie Rules’ (golfer, Greg Norman’s spectacular luxury yacht), and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian De-mining.



Storyteller Media Group (SMG) began its corporate life in 1989 as Storyteller Productions, by former TV news journalist and independent documentary producer, Mike Searle. Production of the multi-award winning Lost Angels - The Great Australian Whale Rescue documentary, became a springboard to the ‘Before It’s Too Late’ Endangered Species documentary series, exploring the plight of endangered species worldwide. Our Library of endangered species vision and stills is exceptional and is registered with ARKIVE a BBC/WildScreen initiative.


Storyteller is also Winner of four Western Australian Government Export Awards.


Storyteller is also signatory to the United Nations Global Compact. The United Nations Global Compact is an initiative to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on them. Under the Compact, companies are brought together with UN agencies, labour groups and civil society.


The Global Compact was officially launched at UN Headquarters in New York on July 26, 2000. As of 2006, it includes more than 2,500 companies from all regions of the world, as well as [a smaller number of] international labour and civil society organizations. There are ten principles that Businesses should uphold::
Principle 1: Support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights;
Principle 2: Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses. Labour Standards
Principle 3: the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and
Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in employment and occupation.
Principle 7: support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote environmental responsibility; and
Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

Storyteller its staff and principals strive to adhere to these principals.
The Global Compact Office is supported by six UN agencies: the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; the United Nations Environment Programme; the International Labour Organization; the United Nations Development Programme; the United Nations Industrial Development Organization; and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.


In 1998, Storyteller Productions added the successful cryptozoology series, ‘Animal X’ to its core production slate. In 2001, the feel-good animal series, ‘Animal Allies’ was added. These two series have enjoyed a significant international following and each now consist of 26 episodes. Since then we have added a large number of single one off documentaries and our acclaimed ratings winner ANIMAL X - NATURAL MYSTERY UNIT.

Today we have produced around $25 million dollars worth of Factual Programming.

Storyteller Media Group (SMG), is the only production company in Western Australia to have won the WA Export Awards for Arts and Entertainment four times. Our documentaries have received more than 50 international awards for excellence in production and photographic techniques. Viewed in more than 120 countries their significant contributions to highlighting environmental issues and the plight of endangered species have also been recognised.
